fooling around in Photoshop

i'm trying for a real charcoal-like line in PS...but the only brush i like draws in gray, and then i have to darken it with contrast. this would make corrections/changes/additions difficult...any tips?

  1. You can download Nagel brushes. One of them might have the effect you are looking for.

There are a bunch of different series apparently. It shouldn't matter which Photoshop you are on, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Also this thread on conceptart.org might be useful as well.

  2. thanks katy--i do have the nagel brushes and it's one of them that i like best, but it won't draw black, only gray...had another more experienced friend try for a charcoal line in PS and she had the same result (only gray), so i guess i'll be buying Painter again after many years! it'll be great for lots more too of course....

  3. Doug at work just upgraded to the new version of Painter and is digging it big time. I have not used the program in a long while, but always loved how the brushes worked in it.
